- Device information — device type, operating system, and app version
- Usage data — features you use, screens you visit, and how you interact with the app
- Push notification tokens — used to deliver notifications to your device
- Log data — error reports and crash analytics to improve app performance
02 How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Create and manage your Asaafo account
- Provide and improve our services including country guides, community forum, move planner, and cost of living tools
- Process your subscription and manage premium access
- Send push notifications based on your preferences (community replies, messages, app updates)
- Respond to your support requests within 48 hours
- Monitor for and prevent spam, abuse, and violations of our community guidelines
- Analyze usage patterns to improve the app experience
- Send important service announcements and updates
We do not sell your personal data to third parties. We do not use your data for targeted advertising. Asaafo products are ad-free for premium members.
03 How We Share Your Information
We only share your information in the following limited circumstances:
- Service providers — we use Supabase for database hosting, RevenueCat for subscription management, and Expo for push notifications. These providers only process data as necessary to provide their services.
- Community visibility — your username, profile photo, bio, and public posts are visible to other Asaafo users. Your email address is never publicly visible.
- Legal requirements — we may disclose information if required by law or to protect the rights and safety of our users.
- Business transfers — if Asaafo is acquired or merges with another company, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. You will be notified in advance.
We do not share your private messages, location data, or financial information with any third parties beyond what is necessary to process your subscription.
04 Data Storage & Security
Your data is stored securely on Supabase servers located in the United States. We implement the following security measures:
- All data is encrypted in transit using HTTPS/TLS
- Passwords are hashed using bcrypt — we never store plain text passwords
- Row Level Security (RLS) ensures users can only access their own private data
- Rate limiting prevents brute force attacks and abuse
- Input validation and sanitization protects against injection attacks
- Profile photos are stored in secure Supabase Storage with access controls
- Sessions automatically expire after 30 days of inactivity
While we implement industry-standard security measures, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure. We encourage you to use a strong, unique password for your Asaafo account.
05 Your Privacy Rights
You have the following rights regarding your personal data:
- Access — you can view all your profile information directly in the app at any time
- Correction — you can update your profile information at any time from the Profile screen
- Deletion — you can permanently delete your account from Profile → Settings → Privacy → Delete Account. This removes all your data from our systems within 30 days.
- Data portability — you can request a copy of your data by contacting us at hello@asaafo.com
- Notification control — you can manage push notification preferences from Profile → Settings → Notifications
- Block users — you can block any user from their profile. Blocked users cannot see your content or message you.
If you are located in the European Union, you have additional rights under GDPR including the right to object to processing and the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
06 Premium Subscriptions & Payments
Asaafo offers a premium subscription at $7.99/month or $59.99/year with a 7-day free trial.
- All payments are processed through Google Play or the Apple App Store — we never handle your payment card information directly
- Subscription management including cancellation is handled through your device's app store settings
- RevenueCat manages subscription status and communicates premium access to our app
- Refunds are subject to Google Play and Apple App Store refund policies
- Your premium status is stored in our database to control feature access — this is updated automatically when your subscription changes
07 Community Content
Asaafo is a community platform. Please be aware of the following regarding content you share:
- Posts and comments in the community forum are visible to all Asaafo users
- Direct messages are private and only visible to the sender and recipient
- We reserve the right to remove content that violates our community guidelines
- Repeated violations may result in account suspension or permanent removal
- You can report any user or content through the report feature in the app
- All reports are reviewed by our team within 24 hours
By posting content on Asaafo you grant us a non-exclusive license to display that content within the platform. You retain ownership of all content you create.
08 Children's Privacy
Asaafo is intended for users aged 17 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under the age of 17.
If you believe a minor has created an account on Asaafo please contact us immediately at hello@asaafo.com and we will promptly delete the account and all associated data.
09 Third-Party Services
Asaafo uses the following third-party services. Each has their own privacy policy:
- Supabase — database and authentication (supabase.com/privacy)
- RevenueCat — subscription management (revenuecat.com/privacy)
- Expo — push notifications (expo.dev/privacy)
- ExchangeRate-API — live currency conversion rates (exchangerate-api.com/privacy)
- Google Play — app distribution and payments (policies.google.com/privacy)
We are not responsible for the privacy practices of these third-party services. We encourage you to review their privacy policies.
10 Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make significant changes we will:
- Update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page
- Send an in-app notification to all users
- For material changes, request your acknowledgment before continuing to use the app
Your continued use of Asaafo after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
